Current Economic Climate Prompts SED to Postpone
Although, after a challenging 2009 we were all looking forward to 2010 with renewed optimism, we have taken the decision to call off SED 2010. The next National Event for Construction will now take place from 17, 18 and 19 May 2011, from which point it will continue to run as an annual event at its Rockingham Motor Speedway home. This was a difficult decision but, on balance, the right one and we are looking forward to a much more positive approach to 2011, when the current economic climate and uncertainty in the market has improved.
When speaking with SED exhibitors and other industry professionals, the consensus seemed to be that, although an improvement is expected around April 2010, a significant, established upturn would not be seen until the end of the year. This obviously means that, although construction is recovering, budgets would still need to be managed tightly. Also, and significantly, 2010 unexpectedly became a three construction event year as a result of Hillhead's postponement from 2009. "We know that for those of you who already have a commitment to Bauma or Hillhead, a year's grace from SED will most certainly relieve pressure on your 2010 promotional budgets," said Tim Porter, head of sales at SED.
Future planning for the next show will be done against the backdrop of previous 'exceptional' events. A year's break for SED means that the team can work harder and longer on the new show plans and initiatives.
Site Equipment Manager (incorporating PMJ) and the SED365 website will continue to support the industry, with the very latest plant equipment and industry news.
